Ahhhh loving the mission right now! Many good things are happening in Croydon! This area and ward are so much fun. Everyday something new happens and we're always on our toes doing more it's the best!
Last week, I talked about a Portuguese family Luisa (mum) and Adario (son)... they are solid. The other missionaries were teaching them for a little and now we're teaching them. They're always wanting to learn more and grow which is sweet. Luisa speaks very little English but we have people to translate the lessons so that's good. And Adario speaks good English so all is well. Adario is a mate for sure!! We get along really well with him cuz he's about our age so that's good. We talked about baptism last week and they want to get baptized but Luisa is going to Portugal for a month in July and wants to tell her family she's getting baptized first so that's a bit of a struggle but we will see what the Lord can do to help us out with that! Excited for this family!
I've talked a lot about the Hairdos family the last couple weeks who are friends with the bishop and his wife. We've helped them fix up their new house and move in this week. Well, the husband Darin has been anti about the church for so long but his wife Lara wants to learn more but as we've been serving him we can see his heart is being softened. He told our bishop's wife he was really impressed with us because we keep coming back to help him and we don't even expect any money. We haven't had a lesson with them yet but it really shows that when we serve people like Christ did then good things can happen! Going to still work on that family.
This week we found three new people and all of them were on one street!! Elder Niuelua and I were struggling to know where to go after an apt. fell through so we prayed and asked for guidance. The Lord lead us to Comport Green in New Addington the most chav/ dodgey place in our area... but we felt that's what needed to happen. Fair enough and an hour later we found Richard, Christine, and Keisha who we all had a spiritual experience with and now have return apts. with! Excited to work with them this week.
Saturday we had a stake activity being held so we went and our bishop's family invited the Harris family and then there were 5 other non member adults there with kids. Great time to have the members interact with all these families. One of them was interested in coming to church so the Vennerholms were excited to participate in missionary work and help Bracciilia come to church!
Our good mate Simon, texted us the other night at midnight with this long text about how he read the Book of Mormon and has written down a bunch of questions for us. We were pretty surprised because this hasn't ever happened and if it did he was usually a bit drunk, haha! We drove to his house that next morning and he had read 100 pages in the Book of Mormon without telling us! He said he needs to read more before we answer any of his questions because he doesn't want to feel stupid if the answer is on the next page. LOL Really pumped that Simon is having more of a desire to change and the Lord is urging him to read from the Book of Mormon.
We also have another mate named Tak that we've worked with for a little while, he hasn't really progressed but said he wants to make us business men when we get home, haha! He's made a huge business from Crypto Currency and network marketing and he says that he will look into the church if we commit to having him teach us to be business men when we get home. Haha, kind of whack but he said he looks up to us for walking around all day getting rejected and not giving up! Good guy but I hope we can bring more of the gospel into his life!
It's been a good week, love you all!
Love,
Elder McSpadden
